York St John students support London Marathon runners

Published: 02 April 2014

Students from York St John University head to the capital next week to help runners prepare for the London Marathon.

Third year Sports Science & Injury Rehabilitation students, Eliot Murray, Oliver Melidoni and Luke Davison, will give massages to runners who will be taking part in the 26-mile route on Sunday 13 April, as part of the Virgin Money London Marathon Exhibition.

The exhibition runs at the ExCeL centre in the four days prior to the marathon (9 – 12 April). It is an annual event for runners and members of the public who are interested in running and fitness and features exhibitors presenting products and services. It regularly attracts 70,000 visitors over the four days.

Benefits of massage ahead of a long distance run include helping to prevent injury, reducing pain and relaxing muscles and a qualification in massage is part of Eliot, Oliver and Luke’s degree course.
The three will join four former York St John students, who have taken part in the event in previous years, and Mark Sullivan, senior lecturer in Sport, at the event next week.
